So I promised a new piece reviewing this past weekend’s WrestleMania 36 & to be honest, I really have mixed feelings on the whole thing.
To start off, thinking logically about the whole ordeal with everything going on in the world today with everyone in quarantine and seemingly every form of live entertainment put on hold with the Coronavirus pandemic, it’s really hard for me to understand the “The Show Must Go On” train of thought considering the health of everyone involved in performing, recording, producing & distributing the two nights of WWE action. However, on the other hand, with all forms of live entertainment put on hold, people holed up in their homes, WWE has always prided themselves for “putting smiles on peoples’ faces” and in this time of “social distancing”, I also see the need for a show like this — to try to provide some sense of normalcy during a time that is anything but normal.

So a lot has been said, rumors are flying every which way and everyone pretending to be a “wrestling journalist” is writing stories regardless of how legit and truthful they are about people asking for their releases and speculating on people jumping to the new upstart wrestling company being thrown together by the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes. And to be honest, I’m actually getting sick of seeing the damn letters AEW already — which stands for All Elite Wrestling — that hasn’t even had it’s debut event yet!
So as the story goes, WWE ran a storyline on Monday night where the women of the SmackDown Live brand showed up and attacked the women of the Raw brand. WWE SmackDown Live Womens’ Champion, Becky Lynch took out her opponent for this weekend’s Survivor Series pay per view, WWE Raw Womens’ Champion, Ronda Rousey in a backstage segment while the chaos continued in the arena in the ring and around ringside.

So I’ve been a bit in the dumps lately specifically when it comes to watching professional wrestling. I believe a lot of it stems from the recent losses of Big Van Vader, Nikolai Volkoff, Brian Christopher Lawler and now the most recent addition to the list: Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart.
So as I type this, I’m once again saddened to be writing about the loss of yet another piece of my childhood. Leon White, a.k.a. Big Van Vader, who had been in bad health for the last couple years after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure. For the last month, had been fighting a bad case of pneumonia, and passed away Monday night.
So last night, while recording Revival Radio, we kind of ran out of time and didn’t get to talk much about this weekend’s Survivor Series Pay Per View event. So I figured maybe I’d just do a writeup. This weekend’s shows should provide quite a lot of great matches for us fans to watch on the WWE Network! The NXT group starts the weekend off on Saturday night with the latest TakeOver event in which a gimmick match we haven’t seen in 20 years when SAnitY, The Authors of Pain with Roderick Strong & The Undisputed Era face off inside two rings surrounded by a cage in War Games.
Along with that awesome attraction, they’re giving us an NXT Title match between defending champion, Drew McIntyre & Andrade “Cien” Almas and will also determine a new NXT Womens Champion when Nikki Cross, Ember Moon, Peyton Royce & Mae Young Classic Tournament winner, Kairi Sane face off for the title that Asuka vacated upon leaving for Monday Night Raw. Other matches include: Kassius Ohno vs. Lars Sullivan and Aleister Black vs. Velveteen Dream. A pretty stacked card that also includes for the live audience, a match for the WWE UK Title when Pete Dunne defends his title against Johnny Gargano. For us not attending, that match will air on NXT next Wednesday and it’s sure to be another great match!
But on to my original purpose for writing today…this year’s Survivor Series card is seriously stacked! I mean let’s break this thing down and just marvel at the show that we’re about to witness on Sunday night, shall we? Continue reading “Anticipating Survivor Series Weekend”
