So I’m sure if you follow this site, you may have noticed a lack of new content over the last month or so, and there’s a good reason for that.
About a month ago, I decided to try to branch out and see what else might be out there from a writing standpoint. So I headed over to FanSided.com to see how the writers for that site got to do what they do & ostensibly get paid to do so. After looking around on the site for a bit, I found a link to apply to become a contributor, so naturally, I clicked it.
Next came an application, so I started filling it out. Part of the application asked what site of theirs I’d like to write for. This was the biggest, hardest question for me, cuz if you look around this site, I like to write about a number of topics: wrestling (which I admittedly have pulled back on significantly), so that was out, sports…a lot of those sites aren’t exactly my cup of tea because while I like writing about the Yankees, Jets or Devils, a lot of the writers for those sites like to quote stats & I’m just not that kind of fan. I’ll tell ya what I think is going wrong with the Yankees, but I won’t do it from an analytical perspective where I cite that player X isn’t hitting and his OPS+ is tanking…it’s just not my style, but for a lot of sports sites, that’s their happy place. So writing for one of their sports sites was out, and I did a search for Star Trek, which came up blank. So I figured maybe I could start that site for them. So when I applied, I put in that I’d like to write about Star Trek & submitted links to my Tom Paris & Worf Trekology pieces and figured “Here goes nothing!”
Don’t ya know I got a response less than 24 hours later? Also, their response was overwhelmingly favorable and they’d like for me to write for their Redshirts Always Die site (their Trek site that didn’t come up when I searched FanSided for Star Trek). So yeah, now I’ll be actually getting paid to write! So add “freelance writer” to the resume! Officially, I’m a Contributor for RedshirtsAlwaysDie.com on FanSided, so unless I come up with a topic I’d like to write about that my editors over there aren’t interested in, then I’ll pop it up over here, but for obvious reasons, if it pertains to Star Trek, I’m more likely to post it over there.
Here’s some links to what I’ve produced over there so far:
Star Trek Has An Andorians Problem
Don’t Miss Out On New Star Trek Just Because It’s New
Female Starfleet Captains And Why Michael Burnham’s The Worst
I’m sure as you’ll see, my writing style needed to be changed a bit to fit their site, but I think I found how to write my longer pieces over there now, as you’ll see with my piece on Michael Burnham. So please, go check out my latest works over at RedshirtsAlwaysDie.com, and please share it around because the more views I get, the more I get paid.
In fact, to keep up with all my new stuff over there, here’s a link to my author page at FanSided. All of my articles will appear there as well.
So this site is not going away anytime soon, it just may not be receiving as much love as it has in the past, but I promise not to abandon it. Thanks as always for following, liking & most importantly, READING my stuff! This has been a labor of love here, and I don’t intend for that to change.
Thanks for reading!
