The Passing of Rowdy Roddy Piper #ThankYouRoddy #RIPHotRod

Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Where do I even begin?

The world was saddened to hear on Friday that yet another professional wrestler has been taken from us at an age entirely too young. Roddy died of a heart attack in his sleep Thursday night at the age of 61. I didn’t get word of his passing until Friday afternoon when I was on my way home from work and TMZ had reported it. Immediately, my phone started blowing up…friends were posting the story to Facebook, I was getting Twitter notifications, and text messages informing me of this sad story. I continued to play the telephone game, relaying the message on to other wrestling fan friends who I hadn’t heard from and one by one, I kept receiving the same responses from them that I had. I was overcome with just an immense amount of sadness, knowing that yet another piece of my childhood has left us. Continue reading “The Passing of Rowdy Roddy Piper #ThankYouRoddy #RIPHotRod”

The Passing of Leonard Nimoy #LLAP

The Star Trek world lost one of it’s founding fathers this past Friday when Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock) passed away at the age of 83. I know when I read the news that I immediately felt a sense of emptiness as my heart just sank. I never knew the guy personally or even met him at a Star Trek Convention, but I was a devoted fan of the man for just about as long as I can remember.

This will be the first time I’ve “Trekked Out” on here as all of my other posts have been about wrestling, sports or of a personal category, so please just bear with me here as I venture into my geekdom and give my thoughts on this man’s contribution to my love of his work

I have been, and forever shall be….your friend. – Mr. Spock

Growing up, I can remember watching reruns of Star Trek on Saturday afternoons with my dad. He introduced me to this world of interplanetary exploration and the positive outlook that Gene Roddenberry had for the  Continue reading “The Passing of Leonard Nimoy #LLAP”

The Retirement of an All-Time Great Yankee #RE2PECT

“The name Derek Jeter is made for stardom. He’s got an infectious smile, and he’s so handsome and well-behaved. He’s just a fine young man who does everything right. He’s like Jack Armstrong and Frank Merriwell, guys I grew up rooting for. Some guys come along who just measure up.”

George M. Steinbrenner, III

Where do I even begin?

To try to start a career retrospective on Derek Jeter is next to impossible considering everything he has meant to and done for the Yankees over the last two decades. I’ve really been putting this off since I really don’t know I can truly do the man any justice here in print form. But I don’t want to just not do it, because that, I believe would be a bigger disservice to the man whose career unfolded right in front of my eyes. So with that said, here goes nothing…

I’ve been a baseball fan for as long as I can remember, going back to when I was a kid and my family would go to a Yankees game here and there back in the mid 80s and early 90s. Liking the Yankees was just something I was born into. My Dad’s family lived in the Bronx and my Grandmother was a big fan of the boys in pinstripes and I always got to hear stories about how great the Yankees were back when guys with names like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Maris, Berra, Munson, Jackson and a slew of others played for the team, but by the mid 80s…all those names were long gone and what was left was a mediocre team filled with names like Randolph, Henderson, Winfield, Kelly, Sax, Barfield, Righetti & my favorite at that time…Mattingly.

Two posts in one week!

That’s right…you’re getting a double shot this week. After completing my viewing of Monday Night Raw, I came up with another reason to write another piece. This one, I promise won’t be so long-winded as the last one.

I wanted to talk a little about what happened with the WWE Divas’ Title on Monday…or rather over the last couple of years or so. So if this doesn’t interest you, I can completely understand. Continue reading “Two posts in one week!”

Ultimate Warrior

I’m gonna give you a little window into my day to day life…in the morning, I usually get up at about 5:45 to get my son up, fed, dressed & ready to go to the baby sitter’s house. My wife is usually getting herself ready while I’m doing all this, and then once she’s out the door with him, it’s time for me to get myself ready. While I’m feeding him, I typically put the news on to see what’s going on in the world, to see how warm it’s supposed to be today and to see if there are any traffic reports that impact my ride in to NYC in the morning.

This morning was no different. So once he was ready, I started to get ready & she left with him. The TV tends to stay on usually until I’m ready to walk out the door, so the news continues while I’m in the shower, getting dressed, etc. So when I was finally out of the bathroom & heading in to the bedroom to figure out what I was going to wear today, I caught a news story about the Ultimate Warrior passing away last night. My morning just stopped. Continue reading “Ultimate Warrior”

Life and stuff

So the other night I had to stop on my way home from work to pick up dinner for Erin and myself at the bar down the street from our home. So naturally, I had to wait for it to be ready and had a couple of beers while I waited. Funny things happen when you’re given time to sit & think about stuff between continuing on your way with your hectic life. You start to realize things that have changed around you and how you’ve just kind of “rolled with the punches” through it all & haven’t really taken a lot of it in and haven’t had the time to truly appreciate everything.

Just as Matthew Broderick states as Ferris Bueller in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” — Continue reading “Life and stuff”
